Host a party
The main way to play. One person hosts, everyone joins with a four-letter code on their own phone, and you find out who in the group knows the answers nobody else does.
What it is
A hosted mission is a private room for you and your friends. It works just as well round a table as it does on a video call, because every player answers on their own screen and sees the reveal there too. Nobody needs an account or an app: it all runs in the browser at nichenaut.app.
How it plays
- Press HOST A MISSION on the home screen, type your name and pick a colour.
- Choose your topics: mixed, a few categories you pick, or one theme. Set how many prompts (seven is the usual) and how long each one lasts, from 15 seconds to a minute.
- Share the room code or press SHARE to send the link. Friends type the code on the home page and appear in the lobby.
- Start the mission. Everyone answers the same prompt, the answers fly from most common to rarest, and after the last prompt the winner takes the podium.

A room holds up to 12 players by default and up to 25 if you raise the limit under more options. The host plays too, and can remove a player or skip a prompt from the menu. Late arrivals can still get in after the start.
Options worth knowing
- Public or private. A public room is listed under FIND A ROOM so strangers can join. Private is the default.
- Your own prompts. Add a few lines of your own (inside jokes welcome) to play first or mix in.
- Appeals and best answer vote. Let the room vote in an answer the list missed, or vote for the best answer of each round.
- 18+ pack. For adult groups only: swearing, innuendo and dating jokes. It's off unless the host turns it on, and an 18+ room is always private.
Who it's for
Groups of friends, families at a games night, flatmates, a Discord call that needs something to do. It suits mixed groups well, because the obvious answers score the same for everyone and the points go to whoever knows something a bit off the beaten track. See the rules for how the scoring works, or try a custom mission if your group would rather write its own prompts.
