Custom mission

No answer lists at all. Each player writes a prompt or two, and instead of a list deciding how rare an answer is, the rest of the room votes.

HOST A MISSION

What it is

A custom mission turns Nichenaut into a game about your own group. The prompts come from the players (“name something Sam would never eat”), so there's no list to check against. The room becomes the judge: after each prompt, everyone rates the other players' answers from obvious to genius (or doesn't count), and the room's average decides how far each answer flies, from Liftoff up to Supernova.

The room rates each answer

How it plays

  1. Host a mission and pick the CUSTOM MISSION tile. Choose how many prompts each player writes (one to three).
  2. Everyone types their prompts in the lobby. Only those prompts are played.
  3. For each prompt, everyone answers as usual. Before sending, you can call where you think the room will rate your own answer, and a good call scores extra.
  4. Answers are shown one at a time and the players who didn't give that answer rate it. The rating sends it flying.
  5. The room rates the prompt too, and its writer scores half of that, so a good prompt pays off.

What scores

Under more options the host picks what the ratings reward. Average is the plain mean of the room's ratings. Consensus rewards answers the room agrees on and cuts the points of ones that split it. Divisive does the opposite and pays out for answers that split the room, which makes for louder games.

Good prompts

The best custom prompts have lots of possible answers and room for a story: “name a place you'd never go on holiday”, “name something everyone here has lost”, “name a film that's better than people say”. Yes or no questions and ones with a single right answer fall flat, because there's nothing to rate. Prompts can be up to 100 characters long.

Who it's for

Friends who know each other well and like inside jokes. It's slower than a classic mission because everyone votes, so it suits smaller groups best. For a quicker game with real answer lists, use a classic party mission; to see how the tiers work, read how to play.
