Class mode

A calm, school safe version of the game for a whole class. The teacher’s screen is the big screen, pupils answer on phones, tablets or laptops, and the reveal shows the class the full range of right answers.

HOST A CLASS

What it is

Class mode is a hosted mission set up for teaching. The teacher doesn't play: their computer drives the projector or board, showing the room code, each prompt, and the answers as they come in. Pupils join on their own devices with the code. Because rarer right answers score more, it rewards knowing a topic broadly rather than typing fastest, and the reveal works as a discussion starter in itself.

Setting it up

  1. Open nichenaut.app on the classroom computer and press HOST A MISSION.
  2. Under “Who's playing” choose CLASSROOM. Pick a topic (geography, science, words and language, history and more) or mix them, and set the number of prompts and the time.
  3. Pupils go to nichenaut.app and type the room code shown on the board, or scan the QR code. They pick a name; no accounts or emails are needed.
  4. Start when everyone is in. After each prompt the board shows the answers the class gave, from the most common to the rarest.

What's different from a party

  • Up to 25 pupils (16, 20 or 25 seats).
  • Only the clean topic packs. The 18+ pack can't be used, and class rooms are never public.
  • No chat, only preset reactions. The teacher can remove a player and skip any prompt.
  • A quicker reveal, so a seven prompt mission fits easily into a starter or a plenary.
  • No paid offers appear in a class room, for pupils or on the board. Nothing has to be bought to use it.

Who it's for

Teachers of any subject that has a vocabulary or a body of facts: retrieval practice in history, key words in science, countries and capitals in geography, synonyms in English. It also works for tutor time, clubs and end of term quizzes. There's more for teachers, including safety and how to get the site allowed on a school network, on the for teachers page.
